Teaching Practice

During my observation of approximately three classes each day, I gained a brief understanding of the students, identifying those who were active participants and those who tended to be more passive. As the day drew to a close, my cooperating teacher encouraged me to begin my practice teaching, emphasizing that it would help me become more acquainted with the students and serve as valuable preparation for the upcoming evaluation day. Following this guidance, I commenced my teaching practice on the following Monday, originally intended as a teaching assistantship.

I had the opportunity to teach students in grades 7 through 9 during my teaching practice. My first teaching experience was with grade 7 students, where I began by introducing myself with enthusiasm, saying, "Good morning! I am Miss Ian, and I come from the Philippines. I will be your teacher for the entire week." The students greeted me warmly with smiles and excitement.

For grade 7, I utilized PowerPoint presentations and activity sheets as teaching tools. I initiated the lesson by engaging random students in a discussion about their friendships, aiming to create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Following this, I delved into the topic of describing personality. After a brief discussion, I encouraged the students to describe their classmates or friends, as this activity served as preparatory for the final exercise.
In grades 8 and 9, I continued to employ PowerPoint presentations and activity sheets. In grade 8, I focused on teaching the students how to recount text, while in grade 9, the topic centered around procedural writing. I also used books for the references.

My experience during teaching practice has been both enlightening and rewarding. Teaching students in grades 7 to 9 provided me with valuable insights into the dynamics of the classroom and the diverse learning needs of students at different grade levels. From the warm welcome of grade 7 students to the engaging lessons I conducted for grades 7, 8, and 9, this experience allowed me to apply my teaching skills and adapt to various topics and age groups.
